Hey KSPC blog readers, site visitors and ever so wonderful listeners!

Maybe you think that the only cool thing about Tuesday, October 2nd is that it is the start of the month of Halloween (!!!) or that it is National Custodial Worker’s Day or that it is also the day to eat fried scallops and give your car a name. But you would be wrong in thinking that, my friend. October 2nd is ALSO College Radio Day!

So lets all give thanks to KSPC for being around our ears, in our cars and on our computers for easy listening and enjoyment for so long. What college radio day really means is that on this day all the college radio stations world wide are banding together to acknowledge that we have not been bought out by large broadcasting corporations. So that is just so great!

This wonderful day is not only a day for us to pat our selves on the backs and say “hooray!”. You can join us and say “hooray!” too because we will be celebrating the holiday by giving away lots of concert tickets and basement tape bundles on air! So stay tuned you mighty supporters you. Keep listening, and you will be rewarded.

Tune in Monday, July 19th to hear two great bands live on KSPC — Amps for Christ and Falcon Eddy!

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Shrimper and the WCKR SPGT “Smooth Sounds” compilation release party on Saturday, July 24th at the dA Center for the Arts, Amps for Christ will perform live on KSPC at 5pm on the “Everything at Once” show with Mr. Sealed Meat Pan and Falcon Eddy will be in-studio at 9pm on “Walken Music” with DJ Mandy Manray.

On Friday, November 20th, KSPC will present Thao & the Get Down Stay Down at the Glass House in Pomona.  The show will be one of the last on the San Francisco-based band’s national tour to promote their newest album “Know Better Learn Faster” (Kill Rock Stars) and one you will not want to miss.  Opening the night will be The Shape of the Earth. Doors are at 7PM. The Glass House is located on 200 W. Second St. right in the heart of the Pomona Art Colony.  KSPC will be giving out tickets to this concert all week so stay tuned to 88.7FM for your chance to win! Come out, hear beautiful music, and say hi to the DJs and staff who’ll be sitting at the KSPC table at the show! We can’t wait to see your smiling faces!

“With its third album, Ghost Rock, Detroit, Mich. band Nomo sets itself apart from the Afrobeat masses. For much of this decade, dozens of austere instrumental bands have copied scratchy ’70s funk styles, often demonstrating a high degree of respect to their homage but, unfortunately, little real imagination. So it’s nice to hear that after two nominal albums, Detroit, Mich.’s Nomo has separated itself from the revivalist pack with a few remarkable tricks, incorporating flickers of Krautrock (on the Can-influenced “Ghost Rock”) and Chicago post-rock (as on the seemingly Tortoise-inspired “Brainwave”) into its usual Afrobeat mix.”

The show is at 8:30pm on Saturday, May 23 at the Spaceland. Don’t forget, it’s 21 plus. KSPC will be giving away tickets all week, so make sure you tune in.  Also, our lovely DJs will be working a table so you can stop by and say hi, and grab some free stuff while you’re at it!
