DJ Spotlight: DJ Cool Hand Luke’s “Top 10” Playlist

DJ Cool Hands Luke

Meet DJ Cool Hand Luke!

DJ Cool Hand Luke’s show, The Luke Sawyer Cool Rap Music Music Rap Show, Music Music, is on Tuesdays from 10 p.m to midnight. He describes it as “banger after banger,” “straight fire” and “turn down for what.”

DJ Cool Hand Luke started in the News Department at KSPC and then began doing CD reviews for the Hip-Hop Department before he found his way to DJ training.

“I think the experience of dealing with labels as the Hip-Hop Director has given me a taste of what the music industry is like,” he said.

DJ Cool Hand Luke likes to attend shows in Los Angeles and the Pomona area, and he recently saw Run the Jewels at the Pomona Glasshouse. He prefers smaller shows with a lot of energy.

As one of two hip-hop DJ’s at KSPC, DJ Cool Hand Luke has worked to incorporate variety into his show.

“I think the big misconception is that KSPC has boring hip-hop or people you’ve never heard of, but we actually have a lot of fun artists that people really like. My sole focus for the past year and half has been adding a lot of variety that people can connect to.”
