The 6th Annual Pomona College Pow Wow will take place on Saturday, March 24th. The Powwow at Pomona College in Claremont began in 2011 to honor the ancestors and the tribal homelands on which the college is located. This intertribal gathering will celebrate Native American culture and honor traditions through music and dance. One of the groups performing at the Pow-Wow is The White Rose Singers, an all girl Native American hand drum group. The White Rose Singers are from Sherman Indian High School, an off-reservation boarding high school for Native Americans located in Riverside.
This interview is with Josie Montes, sponsor for the White Rose Singers as well as the student Vice President (Timara) and Treasurer (Ilisewa) for the group.
