When I think “Norwegian composers,” I immediately think of Grieg . . . and that’s about it. It’s amazing what Nazi sympthazing does to erode your historical legacy, as evidenced by Christian Sinding.
In spite of that factoid, you have heard “Rustles of Spring.” You might not know that you’ve heard it, but you have.
If you listen to this recording, you may be surprised that “Rustles of Spring” is all you’ve heard of Sinding. Check out “Melodie” if you’re in doubt, but this is a great collection. More than that, Lowenthal plays with the music instead of just playing it. He has fun.
Even if you don’t have mad Norwegian pride, it’s still a good time.
