Little PeopleI hate it when songs that I like end too soon, so the fact that “Little People (Black City)” is my favorite track from Matthew Dear’s 2010 album Black City is extremely convenient. Clocking in at 9:21, the song takes you on a thorough tour through a pulsing futuristic cityscape, not ending a moment too soon but never feeling like it goes on too long. The beats are layered and unique, with synth sounds that swoop and crawl, but never sound jumbled or disorganized (on the contrary, its extremely smooooooth). “Little People” is straight up groovy, with a dark edge—like the soundtrack for a trip to a zombie roller-skating rink (What? You guys don’t hang out at zombie roller rinks after school?) You can listen here.
